Edinburgh

Monday, November 5th, 2012

One of the reasons things have been quiet on the blog lately is that we have had some fairly disruptive building work done at home.  As well as limiting the amount I’ve been able to post we also didn’t have a full holiday.  Instead, we had a few days in Edinburgh once the critical work was completed – photographic details inside… (more…)

Panoramas

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

In my earlier post, Derwent Water from Keswick, I mentioned visiting the viewpoint in Castlehead Wood.  While I was there, I made a sequence of images to create a panorama but when it came to stitching it together, I struggled with the software I was using and was disappointed with the result, particularly eliminating the “seams” or joins.  Recently, I made a useful discovery which changed that… (more…)

Final Trossachs Round-Up

Monday, January 9th, 2012

In this final post of the series on Loch Lomond and the Trossachs (for now), I’ll be rounding up the “odds and ends” – the extra locations and shot ideas that I think are worth mentioning but didn’t make it into a post of their own.  This might be a bit long, so brace yourself and dive in… (more…)

Derwentwater from Keswick

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

Durham Cathedral – a different view

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

I’m not a big fan of Chris de Burgh, but he was right when he sang “Timing is Everything” – I feel sure that Henri Cartier-Bresson would agree, the Decisive Moment.  This shot turned out to be about timing in more ways than one.  More after the jump… (more…)

Scottish Fellwalk – post processing workflow

Friday, October 8th, 2010

In an earlier post, I wrote about a shoot I did in August on Ben A’an in the Trossachs.  In this post I’m going to walk through my processing workflow on the Ben Ledi image which I showed you.  Details after the jump…

Scottish Fellwalk – Photo Shoot

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

While on holiday in Scotland, I went out one evening to add some local landscape photos to my repertoire.  I already had some shots from the area and wanted expand the range a little.  After some research, I decided to climb Ben A’an; there’s more on the walk itself here and more on the photography after the jump.

Durham Cathedral and Memorial

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Well, last weekend didn’t go quite as planned.  I had hoped to get over to the Lake District on Sunday for my first hill walk of the year but the weather conspired against me.  I didn’t much fancy the advertised 80 mph gusts on the tops, especially when they were going to be covered in cloud anyway!  I would have tested my new bag system too, but that will have to wait for another day.   (more…)
