Blaid’s Wood Bluebells

On Saturday I had a short scouting trip down to Blaid’s Wood in Durham and found the bluebells in full flower.  Photos after the jump…

Leaving the parking space from the A177 and entering the woods, the bluebells covered the slope to the left of the path.

There are plenty of examples over the half kilometre or so down to the old waggonway, so there’s bound to be something for everyone.  As expected, the flowers are a bit earlier than normal this year, so there are also wood anemones still in flower.

I also came across a small clump of wild garlic that was in flower a bit earlier than normal – these weren’t the best examples I’ve come across but plenty more will follow soon.

The photos here were taken using a Canon 100mm macros lens and were hand-held; I needed to work quickly and without the encumbrance of a tripod.  Oh, and it was really muddy in places after the recent rain – definitely a trip for wellies!
